Liverpool star Adam Lallana fears the Southampton side he left behind may pose the biggest danger to his dream of a top four finish.
But even though the £25m forward reckons the Saints’ status as underdogs may actually help them in the race for a Champions’ League place, he revealed that is the reason why he HAD to join Liverpool.
As quoted on the Daily Mirror website, he said: ‘It will be difficult,’ he says. ‘Especially with the way I left. I’m not on social media. It doesn’t really interest me. But I got the gist of how the Saints fans felt when I left.
‘There were a couple of false claims saying that I’d (threatened to) never play for the club again. It’s not true. I openly said I asked the club to leave if they could come to an agreement with Liverpool, once I knew they had put their offer in.
‘But there’s no way I would ever have said I’d never play for the club again. I have too much respect for the club and I’m delighted they are doing well.’
