Chelsea is very close to completing a deal for John Terry’s long-term replacement. The Blues have been very desperate to land a new centre-half after losing John Terry and Nathan Ake to retirement and Bournemouth respectively.
Antonio Conte’s first choice has been Italy international Leonardo Bonucci, but Juventus want to sell at £60 million, a sum that Chelsea consider ridiculous for a 30-year-old.
The Blues have turned their attention to AS Roma’s Germany international Antonio Rudiger. The defender just won the Confederations Cup with Germany and is said to have been around London waiting to go through his medicals.
Rudiger is keen on moving to England having been subjected to several racist abuses in Italy. The Blues are set to pay upwards of £30 million for his signature.
His signing would not be adequate to cover for the loss of John Terry and Nathan Ake, as the Blues would be competing in at least four competitions this season.
Antonio Conte may still push to sign Southampton’s Virgil Van Dijk, although the Saints are asking for £70 million.
