Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Julian Baumgartlinger could be on his way to Manchester United in January, according to the reports in the media.
Apparently, the Austrian international is seen as an alternative to Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin, who are both expected to be sold next year, though neither of those players are first team regulars and so it is a little strange that United are looking to sign a replacement for players not part of Jose Mourinho plans.
The Austrian has only just joined Bayer Leverkusen and it is difficult to see them wanting to sell a player that is just three months into his contract, not unless they receive an offer they simply cannot refuse, which does appear unlikely.
Baumgartlinger is an experienced midfielder and would no doubt give Mourinho more options, especially if he has no confidence in either Schweinsteiger or Schneiderlin, but even so, this rumour does seem a little far fetched.
The 29 year old joined Leverkusen from FSV Mainz in the summer, he has only made six first team appearances so far, but has obviously shown enough at both clubs to have spiked interest from United.
Time will tell if this particular piece of gossip has any legs to it, we doubt it very much.
