Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has demanded the club make significant investments in their playing squad this summer.
The Italian has had a wonderful first season at Stamford Bridge, leading Chelsea to the top of the Premier League table as well as taking them to the FA Cup final. He is on course to emulate Carlo Ancelotti’s achievement of Premier League and FA Cup double in his first season.
Despite what many would see as a considerable level of success, the Italian is staying grounded and wants more investment in his team when the transfer window opens. Conte believes players like Mikel Obi, Branislav Ivanovic and John Terry need to be replaced with capable players during the next transfer window.
According to the Italian, these are players who have been instrumental to the club’s success for a long period of time and will surely be missed.
Conte is eyeing a double swoop for Everton’s Romelu Lukaku and Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk. The transfer of the duo would cost the Blues at least £120 million, but Conte knows that they are the right kind of player they should be targeting.
With the value of players very inflated these days, Chelsea may likely spend upwards of £250 million to bring in the right players to the club next season.
