Antonio Conte set to make a move for veteran Italian midfielder
Reports from Italy indicate that Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, is ready to offer AS Roma veteran midfielder Daniele De Rossi a long term contract to lure him to London.
De Rossi’s contract expires in the summer, and has yet to agree a deal with Roma, he is said to have rejected Roma’s new contract because it is just for one year and he wants a three year deal. But Roma do not offer players over 30 more than one year contract.
Chelsea’s boss, Conte is close to De Rossi and is also willing to offer the player a long term deal. He would also need to convince Chelsea’s board that the player is worth offering a long term deal as Chelsea also do not offer players above 30 more than one year deals.
Conte needs more experience in his midfield and sees Rossi, who has always been linked with a move to the Premier League, as a player that can offer his team that experience.
If Rossi does sign for Chelsea, he would likely be used as a backup player to N’Golo Kante, or come in as a replacement for Nemanja Matic who may join Juventus.
