Former Arsenal target Riyad Mahrez should try and push for a move to Arsenal over the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool according to BBC pundit Garth Crooks.
Mahrez is back to his best and has been putting in some impressive performances for Leicester City which has reignited transfer talk that had appeared to have died down since last summer.
Crooks believes that with Sanchez departing the Emirates that now is the best time for Mahrez to leave the former Premier League champions and set up camp in North London.
‘Mahrez has been impressive and sparked considerable talk about a possible move to Chelsea, Liverpool or Arsenal,’ said Garth Crooks.
‘However, with Alexis Sanchez now loading Manchester United’s postcode into his sat-nav, I think the Gunners might be Mahrez’s best option.’
And it is not just Crooks that feels Arsenal is the play makers best option, former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp is also of the opinion that Arsenal is the best fit for the Algerian international.
‘I don’t understand why one of the top six hasn’t made an offer,’ Redknapp told the Daily Mail.
‘He has been linked with Liverpool, but Mo Salah plays in his position.
‘Given the departures of Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott, Arsenal may be a better fit for him.’
It is no secret that Mahrez wants to leave the Foxes, he submitted a transfer last summer but Leicester were not willing to play ball and it is unlikely they will this winter either.
If Arsenal make an outrageous bid then it may well happen but the chances are that the Gunners will look elsewhere for a cheaper option.
