Arsenal boss officially confirms interest in £40 million man

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admits he is a huge admirer of Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke amid growing transfer talk.

The striker is a £30m target for a host of top clubs this summer, with Arsenal and Liverpool among those linked.

And Wenger, who is looking to win the FA Cup for the sixth time in his time at the Gunners, admits Benteke is a player he likes.

‘He’s a player who has massive potential,’ admitted Wenger on the Sky Sports website.

‘I think some of the bad fortune at Aston Villa this season was linked with the fact that Benteke was not there.

‘When he came back into the team he gave a lift to everybody and of course he has a fantastic leap, he’s intelligent and he can score goals with his feet.

‘He’s fantastic in the air and can score headers against any team.’

  1. Benteke in my opinion is the perfect forward for the English game and has a track record of scoring goals , he is strong, fast and knows the game well. Even Martinez the Porto goal scoring ace is a good option .The main problem I see nowadays is the price of the players which is getting astronomical after all football is only a game . If it was for someone who found a cure for one of the world’s pathologies for example, the money would be very well spent as it will be for a very good cause for all humanity. But unfortunately that is the way football is done nowadays, its all about business and not the game itself.
