Arsenal have reportedly been left on alert after Rio Mavuba admitted he was set to leave Lille at the end of the season
Mavuba is out of contract in the summer and has admitted an extension at his current club is unlikely.
Mavuba once rated as one of the hottest properties in world football, but the 30-year olds career has not planned out like many expected.
But Arsenal are in need of an experienced defensive midfielder and Mavuba – who has played 13 times for France – could yet fit the bill.
He told France Football: “It is the first time in my career that I am coming to the end of my contract and I don’t want to think about it. “I asked my agents not to talk to me unless there is something concrete.”
