FA Cup holders Arsenal are continuing their pursuit of Leicester City’s Premier League winning midfielder Riyad Mahrez. The Gunners, who are set to complete the signing of Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette, appear to have Mahrez next on their list of possible targets.
Arsene Wenger, speaking to BeIN Sports last month, confirmed his club’s interest in the Algerian but also told reporters that they have not made any official bid for the Algerian yet.
“We have not made a bid, but personally, I like the player, yes,” Wenger said. “I think he made a huge impact when they won the championship.
Mahrez has informed the Foxes that he wants to leave them this season, and even though his preferred destination is Barcelona, the Catalans are not interested in bringing him to Spain at the Moment.
Former Sky Sports presenter Richard Keys also appeared to be confirming Mahrez is the next player Arsenal will sign. He tweeted about Arsenal’s suddenly busy summer on 3rd of July appearing to confirm Mahrez is indeed close to signing for the Gunners.
Mahrez helped Leicester win the Premier League in the 2015/2016 season. Despite an underwhelming season with Leicester this year, Arsene Wenger believes he is still a quality player.
