According to the latest transfer gossip Arsenal are edging towards the £17.5million signing of Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
The word out of Germany is that the German giants are keen to cash in on 29-year-old as his contract has just 12 months left to run.
The new head of recruitment at the Emirates Sven Mislintat, is reported to be in close contact with the defender’s agent Konstantinos Farras and is pushing for a deal to be agreed as soon as possible.
Apparently, Mislintat has set his sights on signing three players this summer with the focus on the spine of the team, with a goalkeeper, central defender and midfielder as his main objectives.
The Greek international has received plaudits this season for his consistent performances, however, he is not getting any younger and his signing may well not be what the Gunners faithful are looking for in the post Arsene Wenger era.
