Arsenal’s pursuit of Barcelona’s midfielder Arda Turan has encountered a major setback after it emerged that Barcelona has received an astronomical offer for the Turkish midfielder.
According to reports from the Turkish media, Arsenal has tabled a bid for the midfielder and while Barcelona is considering the Gunners’ bid, Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande has made an astronomical bid in the region of £44 million and are ready to pay the midfielder £20 million per season.
Arda Turan’s agent has previously stressed that his client is not keen on making the move to the Far East or back home to Turkey, which leaves Arsenal and Juventus as the realistic suitors.
Per the source, the Chinese side is ready to increase their wage offer for Turan as they seek to land him at all cost.
Arsene Wenger is a long-term admirer of Turan and was interested in signing him while he was at Atletico Madrid, but the player opted to join Barcelona instead. Wenger believes Turan still has plenty to offer despite struggling for game time last season.
New Barcelona coach has not spoken publicly on the future of any of his players, but it is believed that he would be willing to listen to offers for Turan.
