According to reports in France, Arsenal are looking for a replacement for ageing goal keeper Peter Cech. They are said to have identified Portugal number one Rui Patricio, as a capable replacement for the former Chelsea keeper. Cech has struggled at times this season, and his deputy, David Ospina has not impressed when given an opportunity to do so.
However, with Arsene Wenger’s future still up in the air, it is not clear if this is a target of the French man or of the board.
The report claims that Arsenal are prepared to make a bid in the region of £13 million for the Sporting Lisbon goalie, who was among the team of the tournament at Euro 2016.
Wojciech Szczesny, who has been impressive in the two season he has spent on loan at Roma, returns this summer. It is to be seen if he would be given another chance or would have to leave again for regular first team football.
Rui Patricia has carved a reputation for himself as one of the best keepers in Europe, by contrast Cech has been guilty of high profile blunders this season which has left many Arsenal fans calling for him to be dropped. If Rui Patricio did sign in the summer, those fans would probably be happy with the signing.
