Arsenal remains determined to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as a long-term replacement for Alexis Sanchez.
According to the British media, the Gunners are preparing to table a second offer for the Gabon international and have underlined their seriousness by sending chief executive Ivan Gazidis to Germany to complete the deal.
It has now been confirmed by the Dortmund’s CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke that Arsenal have made an official bid for the striker, however, the clubs remain apart in their respective valuations.
Dortmund wants £55 Million, a figure that Arsenal is reluctant to pay but they are not giving up and hope that they can come to a compromise figure with the Bundesliga outfit.
Dortmund are open to allowing the 28-year-old to leave, mainly because of his disciplinary record, something hinted at by their sporting director Michael Zorc,
“At some point you can’t tolerate it any more,” Zorc said
“I don’t know what’s going on inside his head.
“We had a very contentious discussion today. We’re not used to this behaviour from him.
“What is going on now is not to be tolerated by the club. It is clear, It cannot go on like this.
I don’t know what is going through his mind. I don’t recognise him anymore.
“There is trouble in the team and that is not good.”
But that has not put off Arsene Wenger who believes the character of Aubameyang will not impact the dressing room.
“Yes because character can be very positive and very negative” Wenger said when asked about the striker’s character and whether he would fit in.
“Overall you look at the achievement of a player over their career and usually his character has been used in a positive way.”
