Arsenal’s pursuit of AS Monaco’s star players continues despite them also continuing talks with Olympique Lyon for the signing of Alexandre Lacazette.
The British Media is reporting that the Gunners have held initial talks with Monaco for the transfer of midfielder Thomas Lemar. The French youngster is one of the most sought-after players this summer, after helping Monaco to the Ligue 1 crown last season.
Arsenal had been warned that Lemar is not for sale as Monaco fear they may lose the core of their young team who reached the semi-finals of last season’s Champions League, but it appears that the Municipal club would be willing to do a deal for a fee in the region of £30 million.
Arsene Wenger is also confident of sealing a move for Kylian Mbappe despite the Gunners’ failure to qualify for the Champions League. Real Madrid remains Mbappe’s preferred destination, but he would obviously not get enough chance to impress at the European champions if he moves there this summer. Wenger is positive that his personal relationship will help him secure a deal for the 18-year-old.
The French manager visited Mbappe’s family last summer when he wanted to convince the teenager to sign professional forms for the Gunners, but Mbappe decided to continue his development in Monaco.
