For those Arsenal fans who have been dreaming of having Riyad Mahrez in their team, it is time to stop dreaming as Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the Algerian was never going to come to the Emirates in the first place.
The Gunners have been heavily linked with Mahrez all summer, and the Algerian had also snubbed interest from some European sides as he chose to wait for an offer from either Arsenal or Barcelona.
However, speaking on the subject of transfers, Wenger claimed that he never had any interest in the winger this summer after failing to land him last summer. According to the French manager, he has enough players in Mahrez’s position, and as such was not looking for more options there. Alex Iwobi, Mesut Ozil, and Jack Wilshere are the players Wenger believes can play Mahrez’s position and he did not need him.
However, the Gunners’ boss told reporters that he is still expecting more players to join his team and more to leave them. Wenger currently has over 30 players and wants to reduce that number to a manageable figure.
