In what could be described as a deliberate effort to force a move away from the Emirates, Alexis Sanchez has told Arsenal that he wants £400,000 per week to sign a new deal.
The Gunners have been locked in a bitter contract negotiation with the Chilean’s representatives, and his new demand may force the Gunners to reconsider their stance.
Arsenal is offering Sanchez £275,000 per week as they look to keep their top scorer at the Emirates beyond this season. However, Sanchez wants to join Manchester City.
The Chilean is also wanted by Pep Guardiola, but Arsenal has categorically told him that he would not be sold to a direct rival. With Bayern Munich priced out of a move by Sanchez’s demands, he looks likely to stay and leave the Gunners for free after next season.
Arsene Wenger was hoping that the signing Alexandre Lacazette would signal to Sanchez and fellow contract rebel Mesut Ozil how ambitious the club was, but that has not happened, as Mesut Ozil is also still insisting on collecting £350,000 per week.
