Arsenal has joined the race to sign long-term Liverpool target Virgil Van Dijk. The Dutch defender is one of the most sought after defenders this summer but his club Southampton is refusing to sell.
Liverpool remain keen on the defender, however having been accused of tapping up the defender early in the summer, the Reds are unlikely going to rekindle their interest, and Arsenal is reportedly planning to move for him.
The Gunners have surprisingly been busy early this summer with transfer business as they have completed the signing of Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette.
Van Dijk would be a tough target for the Gunners. The Dutch defender has his heart set on a move to Anfield or at least a club playing in the Champions League, which the Gunners cannot offer this season. Southampton, who has placed a £70 million price tag on the defender, are also reluctant to sell as they begin life under their new manager.
The Reds remain interested in Van Dijk and if the player hands in a transfer request, they may make an official bid for him.
