Arsenal’s pursuit of AS Roma’s Kostas Manolas has suffered a major blow as it emerged that Inter Milan are in pole position to land the defender.
Roma have had their new contract offer to the player turned down repeatedly after he indicated that he is in no hurry to sign a new deal. His current deal expires in 2019.
Arsenal failed to sign him last summer, but have kept a close watch on the player who has been in impressive form since moving to Rome. Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger is reportedly ready to move in for the player again, and has asked the Gunner’s board to make funds available.
However, fresh reports from Italy indicates that Inter Milan have agreed a deal with Roma to sign the player this summer. Inter is said to have offered £36 million for the player who Roma signed for less than £15 million from Olympiacos.
Arsenal are looking for defensive reinforcement and would be disappointed at this development. They will now have to focus on other targets as they plan to rebuild their squad.
