Arsenal have been given the green light to approach Schalke captain Benedikt Howedes, after they confirmed he is free to leave this summer.
Howedes is believed to be keen on a move to the Premier League, with Arsenal’s German contingent likely to make a switch to the Emirates an appealing proposition.
And now Arsene Wenger has been given a massive boost, after Schalke general manager Horst Heldt has conceded that the 27-year-old World Cup winner is free to decide on his own future.
‘It’s no secret that Benedikt Höwedes has the ability to get through an exit clause in his contract,’ he was quoted on the Sky Sports website.
‘He has not yet decided, but he will do it safely in a timely manner.’
