Arsenal begins their European campaign in an unwanted competition. The Gunners failed to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in 20 years with most of their players unwilling to stick around for this competition.
Alexis Sanchez has been forced to stay after telling the Gunners that he wants to leave and play in the Champions League. The Gunners lead the way in terms of form between these two, they won their last game 3-0 against Bournemouth in a match that could have seen more goals from them if they had not been wasteful. They remain favourites to win this trophy, and with a rich attacking lineup featuring players like Alexis Sanchez, Alexandre Lacazette, and Danny Welbeck, they should certainly see victory in this game.
Koln ended last season in an impressive 5th place in the German league which helped them qualify for Europe. However, they have started this season very poorly and look desperately out of rhythm in their recent games. They have conceded seven goals and scored just once in their opening three league games. The Germans have been hit hard by the departure of their top striker Anthony Modeste and they look like they need more time to adjust to the sale of the attacker who scored almost 50% of their total league goals last season.
With their current struggles, we don’t see Koln proving too tough for Arsenal in this game.
