The latest Arsenal transfer gossip has them preparing to break their club record and offer Bayern Munich £60 million for midfielder Corentin Tolisso this summer, according to TalkSport.
The big problem with this particular piece of gossip is that the German champions have no interest in selling the 23-year-old.
Arsenal’s current transfer record is the £55.5m they splashed out for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and apparently the Gunners new manager is urging the club to break that for the French international.
The reasoning behind Emery’s apparent interest is that Tolisso previously played with Arsenal forward Alexandre Lacazette at Lyon, and that he is keen to reunite them. It’s a bit of a stretch, but the gossip columns seem to feel it is good enough.
Tolisso has had an average, if underwhelming season with the German giants, providing four assists and six goals from 26 Bundesliga appearances. However, it is his age that is the main attraction. At just 23, he has yet to reach his peak and yet has played at all the highest levels.
Arsenal do need to strengthen their midfield but going after a Bayern Munich player that they do not want to sell appears more hopeful than realistic.
It is also doubtful that £60 million would be enough anyway. Bayern paid Lyon €41.5m for him in 2017 and would want a massive premium if they were to even consider selling a young international like Tolisso.
This one simply is not going to happen and Arsenal and Emery will be best served looking at more realistic targets.
