Arsene Wenger has found an alternative to AS Monaco wonder kid, Kylian Mbappe.
The Gunners are currently considered outsiders in the race to sign Mbappe, with Real Madrid currently his first choice. However, Wenger is optimistic that Mbappe will choose to join the Gunners as he would be given a more important role at the Emirates.
Wenger has however identified Manchester United attacker Anthony Martial as a credible alternative should he fail to sign Mbappe.
Martial has failed to live up to the potential he showed while at Monaco as well as his early season form for Manchester United when he joined them in 2015. Jose Mourinho obviously does not trust him, and the signing of Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic may push him further down the pecking order.
Wenger is ready to sign him for around £40 million, but his rivalry with Jose Mourinho may spoil the move.
Wenger is hoping that the offer of £40 million would be too good for Manchester United’s board to turn down.
Martial would love to play more games as next season would be a world cup season. He has the ambition of representing France at next year’s global soccer showpiece in Russia.
