Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is dangling a carrot in front of Jack Wilshere in the hope that the playmaker signs a new contract with Gunners.
It is being reported that Wenger has assured Wilshere that it is simply a matter of time before he becomes the Arsenal captain.
Wenger is convinced that the England international wants to remain at the Emirates and will soon put pen to paper on a new deal.
“I see him here because he is an Arsenal man. He was here at the age of ten and I believe as well he’s not only been here for a long time but he has some leadership qualities” Wenger said
“He has a football brain. He is completely focused on Arsenal. The fact that he has been away and come back … he realises as well that life here is not so bad maybe!
“That is something that is important that he can be one of the leaders in the future.
“Who would question his love and commitment for the club? Nobody. We have to find an agreement that makes him happy and the wish that in the future he remains fit.”
It is certainly a change from Wenger, only last season it looked as if Wilshere had played his last game for the club and was on his way out but circumstances have changed including the return to form of the 26-year-old.
