Arsenal manager claimed in the winter that he had three world class goalkeepers and that looks like it will remain the case as second choice David Ospina has decided to stay put and continue fighting to be number one.
The Colombian was outstanding at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, a performance which earned him a move to north London that summer. However, since he joined the Gunners he has had to play second fiddle to Petr Cech as the Czech Republic goalkeeper continues going strong.
Ospina has been unable to play in the Premier League, but Arsene Wenger has made him his first choice in the Champions League and FA Cup. Most notably starting him in the FA Cup final in May, and that decision is believed to have convinced Ospina that he was close to becoming the club’s number one.
However, if Ospina stays, that would mean trouble for another goal keeper – Emiliano Martinez. The youngster has impressed Wenger recently and the Frenchman is looking to offer him more opportunities at the Emirates. The only hope for him to get playing opportunities now would be in the Capital Cup. He has been linked with a move to Valencia, he could ask for a temporary move to the La Liga side.
