Barcelona’s pursuit of Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin is back on after the Catalans new coach okayed a move for the full-back.
Barcelona named Ernesto Valverde as their new manager this week, and he has declared that he wants to win all the tournaments he competes in next season. It would be difficult for him to achieve his lofty ambitions next season if he does not address some key problems in his playing staff.
The right back position has been singled out as one of the most problematic positions in Barcelona. Since the departure of Brazilian Dani Alves, the Catalans have not found a player who could make that position his. They have used Sergi Roberto and Aleix Vidal in that position but still cannot get the kind of performance they have become accustomed to when the Brazilian played for them.
Bellerin signed a new six years deal with the Gunners last season but would be open to a return to the club where he honed his skills as a youth player. Barcelona is planning to offer the Gunners £45 million, and hope that would tempt them to sell.
