Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil could be on his way to Barcelona if the Spanish giants fail to sign their number one transfer target Philippe Coutinho.
The Liverpool ace remains the prefered option for the Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde, however, they appear to have acknowledged that it is now unlikely that they will sign the Brazilian in January and have lined up Ozil as an alternative option.
This is not the first time that Barca has been linked with the German and despite the fact that he has previously played for Real Madrid they are still prepared to sign the Arsenal star.
It also helps that Ozil is out of contract in the summer and that he will probably be available for a bargain basement price in the winter transfer window.
Barcelona sees Ozil has the perfect player to compliment Andres Iniesta in midfield and believe that he has the quality to strengthen the team in the middle.
Arsenal appear to have reluctantly accepted that Ozil is leaving and that it is in their own best interests to get some sort of transfer fee for the player rather than nothing in six months time.
Reports in Spain are claiming that Barcelona is 100% certain to be buying this winter, it is just a case of whether it is Coutinho or an alternative and Ozil looks the ideal candidate.
