Chelsea’s hope of signing the “New Baggio” has been dealt a huge blow. The Blues were in pole position to sign Fiorentina play maker Federico Bernardeschi, after reports emerged that Antonio Conte, has spoken to the player about a summer move and got a positive response.
The midfielder has impressed in Florence this season, his performance has drawn a comparison with Italian legend, Roberto Baggio, and many fans have started calling him the “New Baggio”. However, he is refusing to sign a new deal with Fiorentina, a situation that has led Chelsea to believe the player has set his sights on joining them.
But reports from Italy now claims the Blues may lose out on the player’s signature after it emerged that Bayern Munich are set to go toe to toe with them for Bernardeschi signature.
Bayern manager Carlo Ancelotti, has prepared a list of midfielders he wants to fill the void that would be left by Xabi Alonso when the Spaniard retires at the end of the season. His number one target is PSG’s Marco Verratti, but he would consider Bernardeschi if PSG refuse to sell.
Bernardeschi has scored 13 goals in all competition this season, and is only 23 years old.
Chelsea are hoping the player would choose them over the German side, as this would make the transfer less complicated.
