Bournemouth Manager Eddie Howe, has earmarked QPR goalie Alex Smithies as an alternative should he fail to land Chelsea’s backup keeper Asmir Begovic.
Bournemouth have been trying to land the Bosnian for some time now, they were close to sealing a move for him in the January transfer window, but Chelsea refused to sanction the deal due to the unavailability of a credible replacement.
The Cherries believe that if they move for Begovic early in the next transfer window, they may pull the transfer off as it would offer Chelsea enough time to replace the keeper. However should they fail to land him, they believe QPR’s Smithies would be capable of providing competition for Arthur Boruc and Federici.
Former Stoke City number one Begovic, was one of the best goal keepers in the Premier League before moving to London, but he has been stuck on the bench, as the continuous great form of Courtois has kept him out of the first team picture at Stamford Bridge.
Begovic is said to be waiting to win the Premier League, and he would be on the move, as he is less than impressed by his current role in Chelsea.
