Reigning Premier League champions, Chelsea may soon join their competitors in announcing their first summer signing. The Blues have had a quiet summer so far with numerous reports linking them to high profile targets, but all coming to nothing.
However, that would soon change as they are close to completing a deal for Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko.
Antonio Conte has made it clear to the club’s board that he wants the French midfielder who made his debut for France last season.
Bakayoko, 22, is one of the finest central midfielders in Europe who is also adept at playing in defensive midfield. Conte believes he would be the perfect partner for N’Golo Kante who helped them win the Premier League last season.
A move for Bakayoko can bring an end to Nemanja Matic’s career at Stamford Bridge.
The Serbian midfielder is interesting Jose Mourinho at Manchester United and the Portuguese manager sees him as a better alternative to Tottenham’s Eric Dier.
Matic also wants to leave, but the Blues will only let him join another team if they have found a credible replacement.
