Chelsea and Liverpool are set to miss out on one of their transfer targets, Andrea Conti.
The young Italian full-back had an outstanding 2016/2017 season as he helped Atalanta topple both AC Milan and Inter Milan in the final Serie A standings. Conti recently played for Italy at the just concluded European Under-21 tournament and is set to join his former team-mate Franck Kessie at the San Siro.
Liverpool and Chelsea were credited with an interest in the Italian, but they failed to follow through with a bid, paving the way for Milan to pounce and make him their seventh signing of the season.
The 23-year-old who can play at both right and left fullback position was seen as a good option to providing competition for Marcos Alonso and Victor Moses at Stamford Bridge, but Conte will now look elsewhere now for defensive reinforcements.
Jurgen Klopp who is looking to add another fullback to his team ahead of competing in the Champions League wanted Conti as a backup option to his already well-stocked team. Conti could, however, have made the Reds left back position his, as Klopp continues to show a lack of faith in the ability of Alberto Moreno.
