Chelsea and Man City are planning to swoop on Arsenal for England international Jack Wilshere if the 25-year-old does not sign a new contract.
Arsenal are ready to start negotiations with Wilshere in the next few weeks and remain confident that they will be able to tie the playmaker to a new long-term contract.
However, it is no secret that all has not been rosy between the club and player despite an encouraging set of performances since his reintegration in the squad following a low spell with Bournemouth last season.
Wilshere had been looking for a new club in the summer after it was made clear to him that he was not considered a first team player anymore, but he has made an impressive comeback and now the Gunners have no intentions of seeing him leave, but it may not be up to them.
There is still a chance that Wilshere will decide to leave the Emirates, he may well be an Arsenal fan but he has to think of his long-term future and that is where Chelsea and City come in.
Pep Guardiola and Antonio Conte need more British players who would help with their quota of home-grown players in European matches and not just players that make up the numbers but ones that can actually contribute at the highest level and both believe that Wilshere is just such a player.
It is also more likely that they can provide the midfielder more opportunities at winning silverware and Champions League football.
The ball is in Arsenal’s court now, they either make Wilshere feel wanted and give him a contract to match or they risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.
