Chelsea has received a major boost in their quest to add a new defender to their team this summer. The Blues who have been tracking AS Roma’s Kostas Manolas for a long time now, and even made a last-ditch attempt to hijack his proposed move to the Russian side, Zenit Saint Petersburg last week.
However, that move appeared to have been put on hold. The Greek defender was scheduled to undergo his medical at the Russian club, but that has been called off signalling there might be some troubles in getting the deal through.
Manolas’ move to Zenit for £26 million came as a huge shock to the Blues, whose late intervention failed to change the defender’s mind as they offered him personal terms that were lesser than what Zenit was willing to pay him.
According to Mirror Sports, the Blues are currently watching developments and may be tempted to make an improved offer for the player.
Chelsea has become more desperate to add defenders to their team these few days after they sanctioned a move away for young Dutchman, Nathan Ake. Ake is reportedly on his way to Bournemouth with whom he spent the first part of last season on loan.
