After being beaten by Manchester City to the signature of Danilo, Chelsea has turned their attention to another player who plies his trade in Spain.
According to online media, the Blues are prepared to meet the release clause of FC Barcelona full back Sergi Roberto.
The full back has been in and out of the Barcelona team in recent seasons as the club struggles to replace Dani Alves. He was originally a midfielder but after the Catalans realised that Aleix Vidal could not fill the void left by Alves, they moved him to their full back position.
With the arrival of Nelson Semedo, it is unclear what position Roberto would play under the club’s new manager. He came in as a second half substitute in their game against Juventus, which maybe an indication that he would become a squad player this season.
Chelsea is in need of new full backs as they know that Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso would not be able to start all their games in the four competitions they would be playing this season. Juventus Alex Sandro remains a target, but the £60 million demanded by the Italians may scupper the deal.
