Chelsea boss plans to swoop in and bring in impressive South American as Lampard replacement

Chelsea are set to compete with Liverpool for the signing of River Plate youngster Eder Balanta, according to the SportsDirectNews website.

The 21-year-old is regarded as an outstanding defensive prospect, and has been linked strongly with a move to the Anfield after some impressive displays in Argentina.

However, Chelsea are also in need of defensive reinforcements, and manager Jose Mourinho believes Balanta could be a great long-term successor to Frank Lampard.

Balanta has a minimum release clause of around £12.4million and although work permit issues may complicate a move for the young Colombian, Chelsea would be willing to loan him out for a few years before bringing him to Stamford Bridge as a member of their first-team. © 2017 Frontier Theme
