Chelsea’s search for a defender that would replace John Terry this summer may be over as the Blues close in on completing a deal for AS Roma for Germany international Antonio Rudiger.
The German has been a revelation since he joined AS Roma and helped them finished second on the Serie A table last season.
He impressed Antonio Conte, and the Italian has convinced his club’s owners to splash the cash on him.
According to Express Sports, the Blues are set to pay Roma £30 million for the signature of the Confederations Cup winner.
Chelsea is desperately looking for new defenders after allowing Nathan Ake to join Bournemouth following the departure of John Terry.
Rudiger is considered one of the best young defenders in Europe right now, and Conte believes he can become Chelsea’s Eric Baily and hopes he settles in early into life in the Premier League.
Rudiger who is expected to enjoy an extended break because of his involvement in the Confederations Cup has told reporters that his future would be sorted out soon.
