Chelsea’s summer is about to move from inactivity to very busy in the coming week.
The Blues have been in talks with AS Monaco over the transfer of midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko for some weeks now, and the deal is set to be concluded for a fee in the region of £31 million.
According to Standard Sports, the Frenchman is set for a medical next week, but the Blues face a huge fight to keep hold of Nemanja Matic.
It was initially thought that Bakayoko was signed to replace the Serbian midfielder who is interested in reuniting with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United, but apparently, the Blues want to keep him.
Antonio Conte knows that the return to Europe means they would need many players that would give them options to change tactics as well as cover for injuries next campaign.
The Blues are also looking to complete deals for a central defender before the start of preseason. Juventus’ Leonardo Bonucci is Conte’s first choice, however, Juventus reluctance to do a deal as well as the player’s age is proving to be a major stumbling block.
Conte is also looking to sign Southampton’s Virgil Van Dijk, who would be available for around £50 million.
