Chelsea’s transfer business may begin with the signing of Antonio Conte’s former charge, Leonardo Bonucci.
The Blues are looking to take advantage of Bonucci’s constant bust-ups with his manager, Max Alegri and the Bianconeri’s interest in Nemanja Matic to pull the deal through.
Bonucci, 30, is seen as one of the most solid defenders in world football right now. He came very close to signing for Manchester City last season, but Juventus were unwilling to sanction a move for the defender at the time.
However, with Alegri recently calling him out in public for not following his instructions during Juventus’ loss in the Champions League final, it seems that he may finally leave Turin.
Alegri is a long-term admirer of Matic and was very desperate to sign the Serbian last season. Chelsea was unwilling to let Matic go then, but it seems that stance has changed.
Juventus value Bonucci at £60 million, but Chelsea is willing to offer £48 million plus Nemanja Matic. Bonucci would normally qualify for just a one-year deal at Chelsea because of his age, but Blues manager, Conte has convinced the club’s board to offer the Italian a four-year deal.
Should Matic leave, the Blues would replace him with AS Monaco’s 22-year-old midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.
