Reports from Spain is claiming that Chelsea sent scouts to watch Sporting Gijon’s centre back Jorge Mere. According to the source this has been the case throughout this season.
The youngster has been in impressive form this season, despite his club’s troubles with Relegation.
The 19 year old made his debut for the club in 2015, and has steadily progressed since that time. He plays regularly for the Spanish Under-19 team, and was invited to the senior team for a game against Bosnia in May last year, but did not feature.
Chelsea are in the market for new defenders, despite the return to fitness of Kurt Zouma, the Blues feel they need more than one player to supplement their first team.
The player has a £25 Million release clause written into his contract, but it is believed that if Gijon gets relegated, they would be glad to receive a significantly lower amount. Sporting are currently in the relegation zone, seven points from safety.
Chelsea are trying to add players with long term financial value to their team, and Mere fits that description.
