Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has decided to act fast and make significant reinforcements to his defence following the weekend humbling at the hands of Burnley.
Conte has decided that he wants Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, who has long been a target of Premier League rivals Liverpool.
Virgil van Dijk, who submitted a transfer request last week, was thought to be Anfield bound but Chelsea is determined to sign the Dutch star from under the noses of the Reds.
Chelsea will reportedly spend in excess of £50 Million for the signature of the disgruntled Southampton man and are expected to make a formal offer within days.
Liverpool will more than likely also make an attempt to sign van Dijk and Man City are also reported to be interested in signing the 26-year-old.
The way this is going it could end up being an auction with Southampton being receiving a huge windfall, though they may argue that the blow of losing a player of such a quality will not be compensated even with £50 Million in the bank.
