Chelsea have been given the green light to approach Schalke captain Benedikt Howedes, after they confirmed he is free to leave this summer.
Howedes is believed to be keen on a move to the Premier League, with Chelsea reportedly ready to offer him a deal.
And now Jose Mourinho has been given a massive boost, after Schalke general manager Horst Heldt has conceded that the 27-year-old World Cup winner is free to decide on his own future.
‘It’s no secret that Benedikt Höwedes has the ability to get through an exit clause in his contract,’ he was quoted on the Sky Sports website.
‘He has not yet decided, but he will do it safely in a timely manner.’
