Reports in the media are claiming that Chelsea have a free run at signing Real Madrid striker Álvaro Morata. Morata is looking for a move away from Madrid after failing to win a starting spot ahead of Karim Benzema.
London rivals, Chelsea and Tottenham were reportedly battling for the player’s signature, but it now appears that Tottenham have given up on the chase.
Mauricio Pochettino, who wanted to sign Morata so that he can reduce the goal scoring burden on Harry Kane, has now admitted the player is out of their reach right now. According to the Spurs manager, he likes to be realistic with transfer subjects, and believes that the 24 year old is not a realistic target for them right now.
Morata recently admitted that he held talks with Tottenham and Chelsea last summer, but decided against joining any of them. It is believed that Real Madrid wants to use the Spanish striker as part of a deal to bring Eden Hazard to the Bernabeu, but Chelsea would likely want an all-cash deal for the Belgian.
Morata wants first team football, and Antonio Conte believes he can offer him more opportunities to play regularly at Chelsea.
