Chelsea have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of summer target Virgil van Dijk. The Dutchman has been in impressive form since he moved to Southampton, his performances have attracted the interest of several top European teams, but Chelsea are thought to be front runners for the Dutch man.
The Blues have been handed a boost after the player’s club admitted that if he wants to move, it would be almost impossible for them to stop him next summer. Per the source, they have already started identifying players that could replace him.
Southampton’s first choice to replace Van Dijk is Liverpool’s Mahmadou Sakho, but the Frenchman’s stock has risen since he joined Crystal Palace on loan in January, they would have to battle with top European teams for his signature.
Southampton want £50 million for Van Dijk, an amount that may likely scare away suitors, but that would not include Chelsea. The Blues are reportedly ready to pay up to that amount as they believe he can replace John Terry who is leaving Stamford Bridge this summer.
