Chelsea have been looking for a replacement for new Bournemouth signing, Asmir Begovic since winter. The Blues were close to signing Celtic’s number one Craig Gordon during the January transfer window, but the Scottish champions would not sell at the time, however, they have finally identified another goalie to replace him in Fulham’s Marcus Bettinelli.
According to the media, the Blues have enquired about the Italian’s availability as they look to bring him in as back up to Thibaut Courtois.
This is the second time the Blues would attempt to sign the 25-year-old, after failing to sign him in the summer of 2015 when they had both Courtois and Begovic still at Stamford Bridge. The Italian felt his chance of playing for the first team was too remote then but could make the move across town this season with the departure of Begovic.
Marcus Bettinelli had a good season with Fulham and helped them reach the Playoff semi-final which they lost to Reading.
The Blues are also one of the clubs interested in Bettinelli’s teammate Ryan Sessegnon after his stunning breakthrough season.
