Chelsea have begun their search for a defender that would replace John Terry this summer. The Blues legend has announced that he will be retiring when the season comes to an end, and his departure would surely leave a huge void in the Blues’ team.
Antonio Conte has identified Athletic Bilbao’s Aymeric Laporte as his first choice defender to replace the former England captain.
However, the Blues are likely going to encounter complications in signing Laporte, due to Bilbao’s unwillingness to sell their star men.
Spanish reports are now claiming that Conte has identified Valencia’s Ezequiel Garay as an alternative should they fail to land the French man.
Laporte, who is just 22, is one of the most sought after defenders in the world right now, as he has established himself firmly in the first team of the club.
Garay is considered a more experienced player at the age of 30. Conte would likely face opposition from the Blues’ board with regards to signing the Argentine because of his age, and a move for Garay would only go through if the player is willing to accept only a one year deal.
