Liverpool may have lost the battle for the signature of Virgil Van Dijk, as the Saints look to sell him to another club.
The Reds were favourites to sign the Dutch defender early in the summer, but they made the Saints furious by tapping up the defender. Although they have apologized for their action, it is believed that relationships between the clubs have been sabotaged and Liverpool will not return except when they are invited to do so.
Van Dijk has not been training with the first team after he told the club’s new manager that he was not available for selection. He is set for showdown talks this week as he looks to force a move away from the club.
Chelsea have signed Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen has returned from his loan in Germany, but Antonio Conte wants more players as they will play in four competitions this season. He sees Van Dijk as the best replacement for departed club legend, John Terry.
Van Dijk would cost at least £50 million, it is still unclear if Chelsea would be willing to make that kind of investment in a defender.
