Chelsea’s bid to sign Virgil Van Dijk has been given a major boost after reports that Southampton have found a replacement for the Dutch defender.
Southampton who are willing sellers have not been keen to let the player go, insisting that they must find a replacement before sanctioning a move for the defender.
Van Dijk is one of the most coveted players in Europe and the Saints would want to sell the player for a price in excess of £50 million.
Though there are other suitors for the Dutchman and he would have to make a choice of which club to would join, Chelsea appear to be at the front of the queue right now.
Chelsea could use £15 Million rated, Nathan Ake as part of the deal, however Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho is seen as a better option. Southampton made enquiries about the French man’s availability in January but were unwilling to meet the Reds £20 million valuation of the player.
Sakho’s performance at palace has seen his stock rise, and Southampton will face a fight from other top European teams to sign the defender.
