Chelsea’s pursuit of Galatasaray goalie Fernando Muslera, has been aided by the South American’s wage demand before he will sign a new deal in Turkey.
Muslera has been on Chelsea’s radar for a long time now and his Istanbul club managed to hold on to him last season because of a £22 Million price tag they slapped on him. Chelsea consider him a good option as backup goalie, and need him more now that Asmir Begovic is close to a move away from Stanford Bridge.
Muslera has been in great form which has attracted the interest of many top European teams this season.
He will have 12 months left on his current deal by the end of this season, and his club is already preparing a new contract for him. But the Uruguayan wants £4.8 million per year, a fee that his club may likely not accept.
This has opened the door for Chelsea to come in and reignite their interest.
Blues boss Antonio Conte is preparing his team for the Champions League and is looking to add professionals who have Champions League experience to his team. Muslera fits the profile and the Blues are hoping now is the time for them to tempt him away from Turkey.
Chelsea are reportedly planning to offer him a deal worth around £5 million per season to come to London.
