Following their shock 2-1 home loss to Crystal palace, Chelsea have intensified efforts to sign a new right back. The Blues had to use Pedro in that position following the absence of Victor Moses through injury, and their loss to the relegation battlers has exposed their lack of adequate replacement in that position.
This has led them to reignite their interest in Atlanta’s Andrea Conti. The Italian has been scouted extensively by the Blues this season, who now feel they must sign him before anyone else does. Victor Moses has done well since he was converted from an attacking winger to a wing back, but Chelsea believe they will get an upgrade in Conti.
Conti scored Atlanta’s first goal in their 5-0 drubbing of Genoa on Sunday, and it is this kind of performance that has gotten the attention of some of Europe’s elite club sides.
Chelsea are also scouting Hoffenheim’s Jeremy Toljan, who has been capped by Germany at Under 21 level. Conte has been sending out scouts to bring reports on the development of Toljan since he was boss at Juventus.
But, it is Conti that the Chelsea manager really wants and appears to be determined to get his man.
