Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois may have priced himself out of a new contract at Stamford Bridge following reports that he has demanded that his wages be doubled to £180,000 per week,
Courtois contract runs until 2019 and Chelsea are keen to tie him down to a long-term deal, especially with the likes of Real Madrid constantly sniffing around, but the club will not bow to his outrageous demands.
The Belgium is aware that his club and international team-mate Eden Hazard is on £200,000 per week, the same figure that fellow keeper David de Gea is on at Man Utd and the 25-year-old feels he should in that category.
Courtois is clearly a world class keeper, he won the Golden Glove with Chelsea last season and has at least a decade in front of him at the top level and he knows that there are big clubs interested in him and willing to meet his wage demands.
This is a high stakes game for both the player and his club, Chelsea will not want to lose a keeper of his calibre and Courtois knows that while there are some clubs interested in him now, that may not be the case next season.
Chances are that a compromise will be agreed before the season kicks off.
