Chelsea’s search for a replacement for John Terry may soon come to an end as the Blues have identified potential defenders that would join them ahead of next season.
Boss Antonio Conte has been tracking Juventus’ Leonardo Bonucci for a long time now and remains optimistic that he can convince his compatriot to join him at Stamford Bridge. The Italian defender was a major part of the Juventus defence that won the Italian league and cup double as well as reach the finals of the UEFA Champions League. He had a public falling out with his manager last season, and their relationship still appears rocky.
The Blues also have Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk on their transfer list after Liverpool ended their pursuit of the Dutchman. Southampton is keen on keeping the defender, and they have slapped a £60 million price-tag on his head.
In a related development, Chelsea is ready to allow defender Kurt Zouma leave Stamford Bridge on loan next season, if they sign one of their defensive targets. The Frenchman missed about a year through injury, and they want him to play regular football again. Lyon and Nice are currently interested in signing him.
